Vendor's Tips for COVID Wedding Planning: Amy Kolo Photography

Yoj Events

Hello everyone, we're so excited to continue our Tips + Trends series, as we learn from some of the best professionals in the area. This week, we're focusing on photography and are excited to welcome Amy Kolodziej of Amy Kolo Photography to the blog!

Here are her photography planning tips:

So, we’ve officially survived one whole year of a pandemic, congratulations! I’ve learned a few things in that time as a wedding photographer and I’m always happy to share.

1. Plan with a partner.

And, I don’t mean your significant other! When you have 15 contracts for vendors and make the tough decision to postpone your wedding, having a planner is a life-saver! This is an emotional time, but your planner is a professional and (literally) does this everyday. Trust them to handle your team with care and to negotiate that date-change-dance for you.

2. Set priorities and stick to them!

With COVID in the mix, you may have to change some aspects of your wedding. It’s important to have a candid discussion with your significant other about what is most important to each of you. It might be the guest list, the band, or the venue. All of these will help determine what decisions you make if need be.

3. Be respectful of your bridal party when planning group shots.

Try to gauge the comfort level of your besties, and ensure they are on board with your vision. Want that cute group robe shot in the hotel suite? Let your photographer know if any of your party is at greater risk, and we will put them towards the outside of the group for a quick in-and-out of frame to lessen the exposure.

4. Don’t be shy about letting your photographer know which shots are a priority.

We want you to have timeless photos that don’t SCREAM COVID-couple. It’s inevitable that masks will be visible at some point but they don’t have to be front and center in those images that you will want to frame. Just let us know and we will work our magic.

Planner: Abby Henderson

5. Be joyful!

Don’t let these crazy circumstances dampen your excitement for this day. I promise your vendor team is THRILLED to be working and to see you happy. Joy is even more contagious than COVID could ever dream of being!
