Choosing Your Table Setting Based on Your Dinner Service

March 01, 2025

Depending on what dinner service style you include, it will affect how you want to design your table settings/ tablescapes. In this blog, we give ideas for how to dress your table up depending on your dinner service!

STATIONS

You’ll only want centerpieces since with stations you typically have 80% seating and cocktail tables. An alternative is doing full seating and adding in a napkin and water goblet. Small plates and forks will be at each station. However, if you do full seating, we recommend including menus to help your guests understand the concept and make sure they hit all the food stations! A perk of doing this style means you don’t need to come up with a seating chart! Guests can grab some food and choose where they would like to sit.

BUFFET

For a buffet dinner service, you could include full or partial settings. A full setting is a plate, charger, napkin, flatware, and water goblet. Guests will just take their plate to the buffet with them. A partial setting is all of the above minus a charger and plate. Guests will grab their plate at the buffet, so it would just be a napkin, flatware, and water goblets at the table.

PLATED

Since plates will be brought out with your meal, it’s nice to add a charger to the setting for a more complete look with the silverware, napkin, and water goblets. You will also need to include a meal card with the guests name and entree selection.

TIP

Add a pre-set salad to any of these service types for an added look to the table and for your guests to get a bite while waiting for pre-dinner formalities!
